Often when we think of a perfect life, we think of a life with no pain or struggling.
We can think of waking up to the subtle sunlight creeping in through the windows to give us a nudge it’s time to live another day. We awake feeling well rested, then shower or bathe to the right temperature water, and make breakfast to the tune of the birds singing.
The flowers sing when we walk past, and we are happy. It’s not to say things don’t change but rather, they don’t change for the worse.
I could tell you such a life doesn’t exist, but what if I told you a perfect life isn’t about the birds singing? What if I told you a perfect life is one where we grow us.
We read this in James Chapter 1:
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.” - James 1:2-3
The Bible speaks of trials and tribulations, things that can disturb our life and cause suffering, not as things to be hated and endured but rather and things to see the benefit in.
Through these trials and tribulations we deepen our faith and trust in God. We experience breakthrough in our limiting beliefs of just how good God can be. We grow.
In the life where the birds sing, we just enjoy, but in this “perfect” life we grow.
We are being perfected through the testing of the fire. Through the good and the bad. We get to experience the depths of God as being deeper than we had previously imagined.
So perhaps a perfect life isn’t about what happens, but how we look at it.
A perfect life has less to do with things going well for us everyday and more to do with the good and bad things working to our benefit everyday.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. - Romans 8:28 ESV
